National Churches Trust awards a £3,000 Foundation grant to Saint Mary, Whissonsett

May 2019

The future of Saint Mary, Whissonsett is being secured after a £3,000 grant from the National Churches Trust to fund essential roof repairs.  Other grants received have been from the Norfolk Churches Trust, All Churches Trust and Upper Wensum Diary Magazine Fund.

The church has been at the heart of the community since the 14th century.   The vital work which has just been completed will allow the parishioners and visitors of St Mary’s the confidence that the building will be dry ensuring activities and worship can continue inside the church, whilst protecting the sensitive grade II* listed historic fabric of the church including the unique to Norfolk Saxon Cross and the Nicholson organ.

Sue Rutter, Secretary/Treasurer said “The work carried out to St Mary’s will help ensure that the church continues to serve the community seven days a week.”
